Huawei MateBook D 14: A stylish 14-inch laptop with very good battery life

The current incarnation of the Huawei MateBook D 14 – a sleek 14-inch desk notebook – comes from the 2021 model year and is currently on sale at prices starting at €600. Huawei relies on a metal body that is kept in a matte finish, Space Gray.

The computer is powered by the Core i5-1135G7 (Tiger Lake) processor, which provides enough power for office and Internet applications. It also allows the use of computer games whose hardware requirements are moderate. The CPU is supported by 8GB of working memory (LPDDR4X-4266, dual channel mode). It will not be possible to permanently expand or replace the soldered memory.

The available storage space (512GB) should be sufficient for the potential uses of the 14D. If the storage capacity of the installed PCIe 3 SSD (M.2 2280) is insufficient, it can be replaced with a model with a larger capacity. Huawei computer does not provide space for additional drives.

A single battery charge (56 Wh) is enough for WLAN operation for approximately 12.5 hours – a very good value. The notebook is powered by a USB-C power adapter (65W). Too bad: The notebook’s USB-C port only works under the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard. The 14-inch matte screen (FHD, IPS) has good contrast and decent color reproduction, but it only has low color space coverage and low brightness.
