Marco Schwartz moved from fifth with the best time in the second half. “It’s unbelievable,” said the 27-year-old after his first victory in the giant slalom. “It was a great fight, especially in the second run. I made a little mistake on the flat part, but I tried to attack and I’m happy with that victory.”
Schwartz’s victory in the United States was Austria’s first giant slalom victory since Marcel Hirscher’s retirement in 2019.
Germany’s five other players Julian Rauchfuss (35), Stefan Luitz (40), Linus Strasser, Anton Grammel (both 45) and Fabian Gratz (retired) did not make the top 30 and therefore did not make it to the second round. .
