Amazon claims it removed more than 200 million fake product reviews on its websites worldwide last year.
Accordingly, the company is also increasingly taking legal action against agencies selling false or fabricated reviews. The group has filed 30 lawsuits against such companies in Germany alone since 2018, Amazon announced in Munich on Saturday. The news magazine “Spiegel” reported about this first.
Not only Amazon, but also other companies are taking legal action against sellers of incorrect reviews. This is also a problem for travel portals, for example, when innovative hotel reviews can be found there. However, civil lawsuits against appraisal sellers are sometimes difficult because they often operate from outside. According to Amazon, more false reviews are deleted in 2020 than a few years ago.
Amazon now spends $700 million annually worldwide on employees and programs to prevent or detect fraud and manipulation.
Amazon’s share in Nasdaq trading at times rose 1.14 percent to $3,698.26.
