The esteemed Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. Very few Indians have walked away with ‘the‘Golden statue. It is considered as the top most awards in the field of cinema. To get such an award is really something. And so here’s a look at those Indians who’ve made the country proud at the Academy Awards.

1. Bhanu Athaiya:

She is a costume designer who has styled many Bollywood actors and worked on some of the best Bollywood films. She did outstanding job that made her won an Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her work in the film Gandhi (1982). Bhanu was also the first Indian ever to win the prestigious Oscar award.


2. Satyajit Ray:

He has been an inspiration to filmmakers across the world and his legacy remains even today. He is considered as the god of direction in Indian and Bengali cinema. He was honored with Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in 1992.


3. AR Rahman:

This man doesn’t need any introduction, he is a legend. His voice is the king of the Bollywood. Rahman won Oscar for Best Original Song ‘Jai Ho‘ for the film Slumdog Millionaire. He once again won for the Best Original Score for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire.

4. Resul Pookutty:

Indian film sound designer, sound editor and mixer, Resul Pookutty was one of the privileged artists to receive an Oscar for his work in the Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire. It was a big thing for him to win such a big award.


5. Gulzar:

He has given so many beautiful songs to Bollywood to cherish. And being awarded with Oscar he once again proved that he is the master of all. He won Oscar for Best Original Song for ‘Jai Ho’. The song went on to become a sensation even in Hollywood.
