Congress President Rahul Gandhi is touring in Karnataka as a part of Jan Ashirwad Yatra. The state elections are scheduled in April or May. The farmers in the Tungabhadra basin are hoping that a representation of their problems to Rahul Gandhi would fetch some benefit for them.
One of the farmers expressed hope that if Rahul Gandhi takes note of their problem, they would be attended by the Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddha Ramaiah. He also said that Rahul can take the problems of farmers at the National level. Rahul Gandhi listened to the farmers patiently during an address and responded positively.
Rahul Gandhi said that Farmers are the backbone of the country. He questioned why waivers can’t be given to farmers when they are being given to big industries. He stated that when Congress comes to power, they would set up a revolving fund to deal natural calamities, fix proper MSP and also waive loans when required.
Rahul Gandhi got a good response from most of the farmers during his visit. However, some Dalits showed black flags to Rahul Gandhi as a protest to consider their internal reservation. Congress has a good hold in this region for long time.
