Reports of a blast have come from the Cochin Shipyard of Kerala today. The blast is said to have happened in the ONGC’s Sagar Bhushan ship. Five persons are killed so far in this blast. More than 15 people have been injured as well. There is huge smoke all around hampering the visibility in the region.
The ship in which the blast took place was said to be under repair. Eleven persons who were trapped inside the ship have been brought out successfully and sent to the nearest hospitals for treatment. It is expected that some more people may be trapped inside. Efforts are on to bring out the people and put off the fire. Naval fire tenders are trying their best to control the situation.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed his condolences to the family of the victims. He stated that it was unfortunate to witness such kind of event. He said that he spoke with the MD of Cochin Shipyard and instructed him to provide necessary medical support to the victims with the help of concerned agencies. The blast happened beside a water tank. The exact reason of the blast is not yet known.
