To the surprise of many, Fntastic announced its return this week. As expected in principle, the community once again pointed to the failure of “The Day Before” and accused the studio of intentional fraud.
With what was initially announced as a survival MMO “The day before” Independent developers at Fntastic have made an emergency landing with an announcement in 2023.
Since there wasn't anything to see about The Day Before except CGI ads until shortly before release, players were already expecting the worst. And they were right. At launch, the title was presented incompletely, both technically and in terms of content, which had little to do with the announcements made for 'The Day Before'.
A few days after release, Fntastic pulled the plug and I stopped the project. The studio announced this week that it's certainly a bit of a surprise to many His return. New game plans included.
Great for the previous day's failure
As expected, Fntastic's comeback plans drew criticism, which once again pointed to developments surrounding “The Day Before”. In order to calm critical voices, the studio looked back at the failed project and admitted that they had simply overstepped their bounds.
Mainly due to expensive marketing measures such as CGI rendering, there was ultimately not enough money to further develop or improve “The Day Before” after its release.
“After the unsuccessful launch of the game, we were unable to continue development due to financial losses. Factors that led to failure included overly ambitious goals with a low indie budget, a team with no AAA experience and excessive marketing, which we deeply regret,” Fntastic said.
Players remain skeptical
Fraud allegations have also surfaced again in the past few hours. Fntastic responded that the developers were never interested in defrauding third parties. “How did he cheat us? We refunded all the money,” Fntastic continued to comment on the end of “The Day Before.”
Despite everything, the community is of course skeptical and, understandably, seems to have little interest in giving Fntastic a second chance or supporting the studio's new project.
It has so far been within the framework Kickstarter campaign For “Escape Factory,” the new title from Fntastic, it represents only a small portion of its targeted funding goal.
