A 42-year-old mother bought medicine online for her 17-year-old daughter, who was already in the final stages of pregnancy.
A Nebraska mother who helped her daughter get an abortion has been sentenced to two years in prison. As the New York Times reported over the weekend, citing lawyers, the 42-year-old ordered abortion pills online and gave them to her 17-year-old daughter, who was in the final stages of pregnancy.
The mother and daughter then allegedly buried the remains of the fetus. The court rejected the 42-year-old’s request for a suspended sentence, the New York Times reported. The reason was that she treated the fetal remains “like yesterday’s garbage”. In July, the daughter was sentenced to 90 days in jail.
The mother and daughter’s trial began before the Supreme Court struck down the country’s right to abortion in June 2022. However, the case has fueled fears about the extent to which women and advocates may be prosecuted for abortion. (APA)
