BMKÖS: Project competition for the 2024 Venice Art Biennale has begun

Written by Anne Flegel

The Venice Biennale of the Arts is still ongoing – the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Public Service and Sport (BMKÖS) is already looking for a regulatory concept for the Austrian Contribution in 2024. A public project competition has been announced.

At the Architecture Biennale 2020 and the Art Biennial 2021, the selection process was carried out for the first time by public tender. Thus, the procedure was adapted to the internationally accepted procedure.

We are mainly looking for experienced coordinators, but in principle anyone can make a contribution. This is possible until September 15, 2022. After which the projects will be submitted in a three-stage selection process and evaluated by a jury of national and international experts. Concrete names are not yet known.

In addition to the scandalous documentary currently in Kassel, the Venice Biennale is the world’s most important event in the field of art and architecture. “This resulted in the prominent role of the national concept, which was presented in the Austrian Pavilion at Giardini in Venice,” Minister of State for Culture Andrea Mayer said on a radio programme.

At this year’s Biennale, a surreal installation with retro elements by Jacob Lena Nebel and Ashley Hans Scherl can be seen in the Austrian Pavilion. The exhibition runs until November 27.
