Canada GP – Carlos Sainz stunned after Verstappen show: ‘I was the fastest’

Before the Safety Cars stage, which resulted in Yuki Tsunoda crashing after 49 laps, Verstappen was in front with ten seconds on Sainz. However, the 27-year-old from Madeleine was sure: “Even without the safety car, I could fight for victory.”

After coming out in Baku a week ago, Sainz regained a lot of self-confidence with a second place finish in Montreal. The Ferrari driver said: “The positive thing about this weekend is that the pace was there the whole time. I was faster in the race and my tires were in control. It gives me confidence for the future.”

However, the Spaniard mourned the missed opportunity to win the 150th race of his career. “It’s a shame we didn’t win even though we had the best pace,” he said, but added: “But he was still very good.”

Accordingly, Sainz has not yet participated in the world championship, as he confirmed to “Sky Italia”: “I believe in the title. For me, for Ferrari and also for Charles.”
