Sepp Straka started the Scottish Open with a run of 71 (1 over par) thus sharing the 51st place at the start.
The Austrian American made two phantoms in the first two holes of the track in North Berwick on Thursday.
Straka made up for lost strokes with the sparrows on holes 5 and 16 before handing the 29-year-old another bogey on the 17th hole.
American Cameron Triangle leads the way, with a strength of 61 (9 below par) with three shots ahead of the competition.
