Russia bombed Ukraine with intense air strikes this morning. In the capital, Kiev, an explosion occurred in the Darnitsky district in the southeast of the country, and falling debris damaged residential buildings, Ukrainian media reported. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko spoke of seven wounded. The pictures showed how the wounded were transported to safety.
According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, a hotel building was bombed in the city of Cherkasy in central Ukraine. Seven people were also injured here and ten others were taken to safety, Klimenko said on Telegram. There were two casualties in Kharkiv, east of the country. There were also reports of missile launches from Lviv in the west.
For the first time since last winter, the Ukrainian energy system has been attacked again. From the city of Rivne in western Ukraine, regional governor Vitaly Koval reported that energy infrastructure facilities had been bombed. There is a power outage in and around the city of Rivne.
Two people were killed in the Kherson bombing
According to Ukraine, two people were killed in a Russian bombing of the city of Kherson. “The Russian army bombed residential areas in Kherson,” regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.
Civilians have been killed so far. In addition, four wounded were taken to hospital, and a fifth wounded was treated immediately, Prokudin added.
In the Kherson region, Russian forces have controlled areas south of the Dnipro River since their withdrawal from the capital of the same name last year. The city of Kherson is regularly bombed.
Last week, Ukrainian authorities ordered evacuations in the area. Prokudin explained that the Regional Defense Council decided to remove families with children from places “under constant enemy fire.”
