Vergil Ortiz Jr. Thomas needs a win against Dulorme to face Tim Tszyu in his next fight.
Former unified junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez is set to make his debut in a new weight class.
Jose Ramirez and Cuban Rances Barthelemy both hit the scales yesterday for their fight this Saturday, April 27th in Fresno, California, USA. The fight will take place at welterweight, although a catchweight is 2kg less than welterweight. The fight will take place this Saturday night and tomorrow Sunday morning at the “SaveMart Center” in Fresno, California, USA.
The local hero, 31-year-old Jose Ramirez, came in at 140 pounds in front of a raucous crowd that was excited to see their local hero return. Rances Barthelemy, now 38, a former world champion in two different weight divisions, weighed 64.4 kg.
In the evening's co-feature, Vergil Ortiz will face his second fight in 2024. Virgil Ortiz Jr. and Thomas Dulorme agreed to a catch weight for their fight. Vergil Ortiz came in at 70.6kg and Dulorm a bit lighter, but he still weighed in at 70.1kg, the heaviest of his career.
Oscar Duarte and Joseph Diaz provided more drama at the official weigh-in as both had to make weight. The bout is highly anticipated as both boxers are coming off a losing streak.
Oscar Duarte, now trained by star trainer Robert Garcia, weighed 62.4kg – Diaz lifted 62.6kg. The fight takes place at super lightweight.
Marlon Esparza is looking to defend her three world titles against Argentina's Gabriela Alanis in a WBC, WBO and WBA women's flyweight title. But then she missed the scale.
Marlon Esparza weighed in at 51.7kg, over 1kg – while his opponent Alanis weighed in at 50.4kg.
At the press conference, Esparza clearly wasn't there to make friends, as she immediately responded with the following statement: “I'm here because the WBO has mandated a rematch – and I'm here to honor my obligations. To fulfill”.
