According to estimates, there are about six million refugees from African countries living in Egypt alone (mostly from Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea), but official numbers are much lower. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has registered nearly 500,000 people as refugees. Recently, the number of migrants wanting to cross from Libya to Greece, and thus to the European Union, has also increased.
According to international press reports, the conservative liberal political delegation from the European Union is expected to present an aid package worth 7.4 billion euros to Cairo. According to the Financial Times, the project aims to support the economic situation in Egypt.
