Jeep is recalling 69,201 vehicles in the U.S. due to fires. In Germany, no recall is known.
In some situations, the clutch pressure plate can overheat due to friction, which can lead to rapid breakdown of the pressure plate. If a pressure plate is deformed, it can cause cracks or holes in the transmission case, which can force hot components out of the transmission case. They may come into contact with an ignition source in the vehicle or surrounding area and lead to a fire.
In some situations, prior to failure, the driver may smell an overheated clutch and/or feel clutch slippage. There is also a message on the information screen.
These models are currently affected by the recall in the US:
- Jeep Wrangler Production period from August 23, 2017 to February 16, 2023 (55,082 vehicles)
- Jeep Gladiator Production period from December 21, 2018 to February 16, 2023 (14,119 vehicles)
(Total: 69,201 vehicles)
Jeep will issue a voluntary safety recall on all affected vehicles. The recall can be found with the US Transportation Safety Administration NHTSA under case number 23V-116.
