If you want your friends and contacts to be able to see if they are currently online, you don’t have to activate the new function. Then you can also see the online status of your friends. WhatsApp: How to turn on the new privacy feature
- Open WhatsApp on the smartphone
- Click the three dots at the top (Android) or bottom (Apple) on the right
