Japanese Memory Specialist kioxia Announced the second generation of PCIe 5.0 SSDs. Compared to the previous generation, according to the manufacturer, performance is improved by up to 14 percent. The new CD8 series NVMe SSD hard drives are for Hyperscale data centers and enterprise servers Designer.
The new SSDs are compatible with a 2.5″ form factor and have a height of 15mm. It has a special controller and firmware that can be customized according to customer needs. In addition to PCIe 5.0, the CD8 series supports the Datacenter NVMe SSD 2.0 standards for the Open Computation Project (OCP) and NVMe 1.4.
“We expect PCIe 5.0 to become the dominant interface within the next 2-3 years,” says Paul Rowan, Vice President of SSD Marketing and Engineering at Kioxia Europe GmbH. With the introduction of the CD8 series, the company is in an advantageous position to be able to support customers with their converter early on.
The sequential read transfer rate of the new storage media is up to 7.2 Gbit / s. In addition, the new SSDs support Sanitize Instant Erase (SIE) and Self-Encrypted Drive (SED) security options, but not in all regions where they are sold.
According to the manufacturer, NVME SSDs are particularly suitable for data processing in areas such as high performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI) applications, caching layers, or financial trading and analytics. New SSDs are not yet available for purchase. However, Kioxia Germany has announced that it is available for initial customer evaluations.
