Microsoft It’s now officially confirmed that they’ve been offered a 10-year contract to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation.
Brad Smith confirmed a report claiming that the company made a long-term bid for Call of Duty to stay on PlayStation (via Wall Street Journal). This is of course self-serving, because the group is trying Sony To please regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Sony is fighting back loudly, but unnecessarily, Smith says
“Sony has proven they’re the loudest. They’re as excited about this deal as Blockbuster is about the rise of Netflix,” said Smith. “The main risk that Sony identifies as potentially a competitor to the competition is that Microsoft will not make Call of Duty available for the PlayStation. But that would be commercially unreasonable. A large portion of Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty revenue comes from the sale of PlayStation games. Given For the popularity of cross-play, this would also be disastrous for the Call of Duty franchise and Xbox itself, alienating millions of gamers.”
“That’s why we’ve offered Sony a 10-year deal that every new Call of Duty version will be available for PlayStation the same day it’s released for Xbox. We’re ready to extend that commitment to others as well.” It made a similar commitment to the European Commission to ensure access to key technologies for competing services when it acquired LinkedIn in 2016.
The planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is currently under heavy scrutiny worldwide.
