Radeon RX 7900 XT (X)
The new driver should reduce idle consumption
inside Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX Ratings One criticism was High idle consumption – Especially in video playback as with colleagues computer base Found. In addition, there is control over more than one screen. With us, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX hit 35W at UHD and 60Hz.
AMD now has Adrenalin Edition 22.12.2 releasedwhich is exclusively for the Radeon RX 7900 series. Old cards are not supported in this release.
We have now tested the Radeon RX 7900 XTX again with version 22.40.00.57, as we had it for initial testing, and the new Adrenalin Edition version 22.12.2:
With 22.40.00.57 we get an average of 36.5 watts and it also shows how fluctuating the consumption is here. Between 28 and 40 watts every few seconds, interrupted by a longer rest period and repeating this picture over and over. With the new Adrenaline 22.12.2 we get an average of 28.8W and the curve is smoother with fewer peaks.
So, AMD has taken the right course in driver optimization, but just under 30W is still actually too much to power a single monitor.
