Suzuki GSX-S1000GX testing and testing

The 2024 Suzuki GSX-S1000GX marks a milestone in the Suzuki model range with the manufacturer’s first semi-active suspension system. Name: Suzuki Advanced Electronic Suspension System (SAES), based on the famous SHOWA EERA technology. Information from all relevant sensors in the vehicle is used to continuously deliver the best possible chassis settings during live operation. The damping of both the suspension fork and shock absorber are dynamically adapted to the driving situation.

Of course, when looking at such an electronic structure alone, it makes no sense. It is always part of a complete system that includes a variety of electronic driving aids. However, these matters will be addressed later. Sensors on the Suzuki also detect load conditions in order to automatically adjust the suspension.

The SAES system basically offers three suspension settings: hard, medium and soft and also adapts the suspension to the speed being driven. Suzuki Deceleration Damping Control (SDDC) measures acceleration forces during braking maneuvers and regulates damping accordingly. In practical terms, this means that dive is reduced when braking. On the other hand, the car remains pleasantly stable at higher speeds, despite the 150mm of suspension travel.

Another exciting feature is Suzuki’s newly developed Floating Ride Control system. This system uses an IMU to fix the position of the motorcycle relative to an imaginary point above the vehicle. The goal is to minimize vertical movements of the vehicle. The semi-active suspension is constantly adjusted to achieve this. When driving on slippery surfaces, the SFRC system adjusts its activity to provide a more direct driving feel and avoid excessive damping between the rider and the road. However, over larger bumps, the system allows more freedom of movement to prevent the driver from feeling too isolated from the road.
