The Musical (Austria 2022, premiere in Germany) After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the traditional Christmas concert “Christmas in Vienna” took place again this year in the usual format at the Vienna Concerthaus. The musical program ranges from classical repertoire to traditional songs from around the world and famous Christmas songs. In these difficult times, it is not only about enjoying music, but above all about feeling a sense of peaceful coexistence.
On December 17, a number of artistic personalities gave a first-rate musical treat: besides American mezzo-soprano Jimmy Barton, the duo Bartolome / Bateman were on stage. Soprano Katharina Conradi and tenor Rolando Villazon had to cancel at short notice due to illness. Miriam Kottruats from the Youth Company of the Theater an der Wien and Vincent Schirmacher from the Vienna Volksopere stepped in for her. Christmas was celebrated with the Vienna Singing Academy, the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the Suprar Children’s and Youth Choir. The ORF Radio Vienna Symphony Orchestra performed for the first time under Maestro Claire Levacher.
The concert was broadcast on ORF II on 21 December. ARTE offers a shorter version.
