Data loss: Italy has stopped ChatGPT | DiePress.com

The authority criticizes data protection violations.

sOhm ChatGPT will be blocked in Italy pending compliance with privacy regulations. This is decided by the Italian authority for the protection of personal data. It launched a preliminary investigation and ordered that the processing of Italian users’ data be restricted by OpenAI, the US company that developed the ChatGPT platform.

ChatGPT, the most popular artificial intelligence software, suffered a data leak on March 20 that affected users’ conversations and payment information for subscribers of the paid service. The Italian authority indicated that all those whose data OpenAI collects were not informed, but more importantly that there was no legal basis justifying the massive collection and storage of personal data for the purpose of “training” the algorithms. Although the service is aimed at people over the age of 13, there is no age verification filter for users. The company must report within 20 days the measures it has taken to protect the data. Otherwise, there is a risk of a fine of up to 20 million euros or four percent of his annual worldwide turnover. (APA)
