Good story, bad AI: Fans are praising the campaign
Fans can add the game, which is currently available on Steam for around €46, to their library for free for a limited time starting August 24, 2023 and keep it forever. Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is a prequel to the Homeworld series in which we explore the desert world of Kharak. There is a campaign with 13 story missions, as well as an online multiplayer mode in which we can compete with other players in ranked matches, among other things.
We will have to control our fleet of land and air vehicles to determine tactical battles in our favor, as well as manage key resources, research new technologies and assemble our fleet. Units can be played against each other on the rock-paper-scissors principle.
The community on Steam praises Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak above all for the game’s story and atmosphere, which is reminiscent of Dune and Command & Conquer. Above all, the troop’s poor AI, which sometimes has severe path-finding problems, hits the masses in a negative light. But if you’re interested in Homeworld and want an entertaining campaign that lasts around 9 hours, you should give the free title a chance.
