Austria's largest wrestling tournament at the VIVA State Sports Center Sport Burgenland in Steinbrunn
The starting field is impressive: around 270 wrestlers from 35 clubs and nine countries take part on Saturday in the second Greco-Roman style Austrian Open U-15 Cup tournament at the VIVA State Sport Burgenland Center. Burgenland is represented by 15 boys and three girls from ASKÖ Wrestling Sport VIVA Neufeld. “It is the biggest wrestling tournament in Austria,” explains ASKÖ Wrestling Sport VIVA Neufeld president and national team coach Mario Schindler. The first showing of the U15 Austrian Open Cup took place in April 2023 at the VIVA State Sports Centre, with 155 athletes from 20 clubs and five countries participating. “The starting field has grown a lot today. This shows how professional the work is at the VIVA State Sports Center. In recent years, Burgenland has often presented itself as an ideal training destination and venue for competitions in a wide range of sports. We have always been able to welcome national teams and many One of the biggest teams in the country. The use of our sports facilities by national and international teams means further advancement of the sports area in Burgenland and the VIVA State Sports Center contributes a lot to this,” emphasizes State Sports Advisor Heinrich Dorner. The organizer of the competition is the Austrian Wrestling Association (ÖRSV), and the host is ASKÖ Wrestling Sport VIVA Neufeld.
Young club athletes born between 2009 and 2015 in different weight categories are eligible to compete in the 2nd U15 Austrian Open Cup. Fighting time is two rounds of two minutes each. The result of the U15 Austrian Open will be included in the highly coveted “Red Ribbon” evaluation – the Best Youth Work Award.
VIVA is the eastern wrestling base of the Austrian Wrestling Association
The Austrian Wrestling Association established its eastern wrestling base at the VIVA State Sports Center Sport Burgenland. In addition to the fitness offerings, two 10 x 10 meter wrestling and sports mats are also available on site. Not only does the Austrian national team organize its training sessions there, but there are also regular training sessions for children three times a week.
