Easy language: Demonstrations and riots in Sweden

There have been violent riots at demonstrations in Sweden in recent days. Several police officers were injured and cars were destroyed. The reason for the demonstrations was the planned appearance of a Danish politician. Far-right politician Rasmus Paludan also wants to run in Sweden with his party.

Rasmus Baludan plans to burn the Koran. The Qur’an is the most important book in Islam and is very important for believers. For right-wing extremists, not all people are the same. They have prejudices against people who have, for example, a different origin or religion. Right-wing extremists are often violent.

Anti-fascist demonstrations

There were demonstrations by anti-fascists against the planned appearance of Baludan. People with anti-fascist attitudes are anti-fascist. Fascism is a political position. Fascism is far-right, racist and xenophobic.

Injuries and arrests

Many of these anti-fascist demonstrations led to riots with casualties. For example in the cities of Norrköping, Linköping, Stockholm, Örebro, Landskrona and Malmö. Several police cars were destroyed and 26 policemen were injured. At least 40 people were arrested.
