Eleventh degree for America

In the 19th edition of the Women’s World Basketball Championship, the team from the United States won the title for the fourth time in a row and the eleventh time overall. In the final, the Americans defeated the Chinese team 83:61 (43:33) in front of 16,000 spectators in Sydney. Australia secured the bronze medal with a 95:65 (51:43) win over Canada. Germany did not qualify for the World Cup. Only in 1967 (GDR) and 1998 was Germany selected for the Women’s World Cup in basketball. Olympic silver medalist Shiori Yasuma led USC Freiburg to its first German championship last season as a playmaker, having already lost in the group stage of the twelve-team tournament.
