After a 14-year absence, DSV Leoben made their return to the second tier perfectly on Friday. In the home match against the WAC amateurs, the Styrians, coached by former Rapid forward Carsten Jancker, won 3:1 and thus won the championship by three points ahead of LASK amateurs.
The traditional club, which also played in the Senators for ten years, completes the field of the second division for the next season. This means that Styria is represented by seven teams in the first two leagues in 2023/24. Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz (Regionalliga West) and SV Stripfing (RL Ost) have already secured their tickets ahead of Leoben. Relegated strikers Steyr and amateur teams from Rapid and Austria Wien will not be represented in the second performance level.
As in 2018 with a trumpet
Carsten Jancker was promoted to the second highest league with Horn in 2018, but then lost his job at Waldviertel. In 2021 he went to Leoben, at that time still in the National League and now able to celebrate after two promotions in a row.
Wallern moves to the Regional League
Austrian top league champion ASKÖ Oedt will not receive a place in the Regionalliga West. The sponsor league and former failed president Franz Grad would not arise due to infrastructure problems. Former Bundesliga coach Gerald Baumgartner has been the sporting director there since the start of the year. On Friday, the Upper Austrian vice-champion Wallner decided to play in the third highest league.
