FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – Commerzbank will get the following board member from Austria: Bernd Spalt, former head of the Austrian Erste Group Bank, will be Chief Risk Officer of the Frankfurt DAX Group from 1 January 2024 and will succeed Markus Krumeck in this position.
A former member of the Board of Directors of Erste Group and Erste Bank Austria, Spalt has “many years of experience in all areas of risk management,” Commerzbank announced when the director was appointed in September. From January 2020 to the end of June 2022, Spalt served as CEO of Erste Group Bank AG.
His predecessor, Chromek, had been head of risk at Commerzbank since January 1, 2016. Chromek informed Commerzbank's supervisory board in July 2022 that he would fulfill his contract, which runs until the end of 2023, but would not accept a possible offer for an extension.
Spalt is not the first member of the Commerzbank Board of Directors to work at the Austrian institute: Sabine Mlnarski, Head of Human Resources since January 2023, and Thomas Schoeffler, Head of Private Clients since the end of 2021, also previously worked at Erste Group Bank. /bin/dp/e
