Indian Wells Masters: Djokovic Nardi defeats Paul – Medvedev defeats Dimitrov in round of 16

'Lucky loser' Nardi sensationally knocked out Grand Slam champion Djokovic, his childhood idol, in the third round when he returned to the tour and spoke of a “miracle”.

The 20-year-old, who only entered the main draw due to a withdrawal, became only the sixth player outside the top 100 to defeat the world number one at a Masters tournament since 1990.

But he was in a losing position against Paul in the round of 16. The American will now face Norwegian Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals.

The former French Open and US Open qualifier wrestled veteran French star Gael Monfils after falling behind by a set of 3:6, 7:6 (7:3), 6:4.

Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev acted more confidently against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

The Russian won 6:4, 6:4 after a focused performance and hopes to reach the final in the California desert as in 2023.

In the quarter-finals, Medvedev will first face the winner of the match between the winner of the 2022 edition, Taylor Fritz (USA) and Holger Rohn (Denmark).
