Photography is not always a walk in the park. Especially in serial productions, stars are often under pressure to perform well during long work days. Nicole Kidman also had the same experience on the set of Big Little Lies. Even the string on her hat blew once.

In 2017, the series “Big Little Lies” was released on HBO, which tells the story of a group of women who have to cope with traumatic experiences. Nicole Kidman plays the main character, Celeste Wright. In a panel discussion organized by The Hollywood Reporter, the actress now talks about the enormous emotional stress she felt during filming.

At the end of a nerve-racking day of filming, she threw a brick at the door because “it was locked and I couldn't get in,” Kidman says. “I've never done that in my life.” Looking back, the 56-year-old explains her unusual behavior as follows: “Obviously I spent too much. I ruined everything. It cost me a fortune.”

Kidman said she was “kind of angry” when she explained her behavior the next day. Repressed emotion also had to do with the general way of working in serial productions. And since the show must always go on, you are always under pressure: “You show up to work and work, work, work.” The end result is often six months of shooting with 12 or 14 hour days. “And you don't have time to say, 'I have to take care of myself.'”

Kidman said the production of “Emigrants,” released on Prime Video in 2024, had a similar emotional impact on her. Filming the Lulu Wang series was also “very hard on the soul.” After that, “I made a comedy because I was crazy about my own psychology.”

Big Little Lies aired in 2017 and 2019, and has had two seasons so far. In addition to Kidman, it also stars Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoe Kravitz. At the end of last year, Kidman himself announced a sequel to the third season. However, this has not been officially confirmed yet.
