Davion Kimbrough signed with Sacramento Republic FC of the United Soccer League on Tuesday at just 13 years, 5 months and 13 days old. This makes Talent the youngest professional soccer player of all time in the United States.
He also holds the record for the youngest professional athlete in North American sports, which includes sports leagues such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and WNBA.
Before Kimbrough, New York City FC’s Maximo Carrizo held that title, signing a contract in February 2022 at the age of 14.
Kimbrough has been playing in Republic FC’s youth academy since 2021, aged 11. There he scored 61 goals in 81 games over the past two seasons with Sacramento’s U-13 and U-14 teams in the MLS Next League. Now, at just 13 years old, he can play in the club’s first team as well.

The German Football League is following the example of other leading European leagues. England, Spain, Italy and France have had this rule for some time.
Kimbrough caused quite a stir in the prestigious Bassevelde U-13 Cup. He was a guest player for the Red Bulls from MLS in the competition (along with Juventus Turin, West Ham and Benfica) and was instrumental in the team becoming the first MLS team to win the competition. He was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
With approval from both the federation and the league, the 1.8m-tall Kimbrough could make his professional debut against Birmingham Legion FC on Saturday.
