Kyiv announces further land acquisition near Kharkiv

According to the Ukrainian army, it made further territorial gains near the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. The village of Dementijivka north of the megacity has been liberated due to an advance, the General Staff posted on Facebook on Wednesday. The village is about eight kilometers from the Russian border. In recent weeks, the Ukrainians have been pushing back Russian forces in north and northeastern Kharkiv.

However, the Russian army is said to be trying to launch a counterattack near Ternowa, northeast of Kharkiv. On the border with the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, there was also fighting for the village of Dovhenke, about 25 kilometers from Sloviansk. Heavy fighting continued in Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Sevgerodonetsk in the neighboring Luhansk region. Russian forces will be supported by intense Luftwaffe bombing in various sectors. However, they would not have achieved territorial gains.

According to information from Kyiv, the Sumy and Chernihiv regions in the north-east of Ukraine were bombed from the Russian lands. Ukrainian border guards reported seven attacks using heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, tube artillery, and rockets. The village of Shustka near the border in the Sumy region was bombarded with mortars for more than an hour. But there were no casualties. The reports were not initially verifiable independently.

After the Russian offensive on February 24, Moscow forces initially occupied northern Ukraine. After heavy losses, they withdrew to their own lands or to Belarus. The fighting turned south to the Donbass. The Russian Defense Ministry has also reported missile attacks on northern Ukraine in the past few days.
