Linz / Bayreuth. Bruckner Len’s conductor Marcus Buechner will direct the new production of Richard Wagner’s opera “Tristan and Isolde” at Bayreuth Festival, thus opening this year’s Wagner Festival in Green Hill.
“Tristan” was last on the Linzer Landestheater schedule in 2018, with Poschner receiving the Austrian Musical Theater Award for Best Musical Direction in 2020. Leading the Linz Major Orchestra led the Bayreuth Festival for the first time during his guest performance in Abu Dhabi in 2019 with the song “Valkyrie” by Wagner. As Pietari Inkinen has to give up management of the new production “Der Ring des Nibelungen” for health reasons this year, Cornelius Meister will take over. So that he can focus fully on his intense final training period and upcoming episode courses, Marcus Buchner will run “Tristan und Isolde”.
“We are proud”
“Marcus Buchner’s invitation to Bayreuth confirms once again that our conductor is one of the unmistakably dominant figures of our time: always working service, striving for exceptional quality with utmost urgency and charisma in his playing attitude and devotion to the orchestra and the audience! We are very proud of! with our main conductor and we look forward to our future together, which is secured for at least the next five years,” says Norbert Traauger, artistic director of the Linz Orchestra at Bruckner.
The premiere of “Tristan and Isolde” will take place on July 25 in Bayreuth.
