Meredith Monk – composer, singer, director, choreographer, and creator of new operas, musical theatrical works, films, and installations – was born November 20, 1942, in New York City. She is considered one of the most distinguished and influential artists of our time and is a pioneer, now referred to as “extended vocal technique” and “interdisciplinary performance”.
Monk creates works that thrive at the intersection of the two terms, discovering and weaving new modes of perception. Her pioneering exploration of sound as an instrument, as an eloquent language in its own right, pushes the boundaries of musical composition and creates soundscapes that evoke emotions, energies, and memories. Meredith Monk’s continent could hardly be defined better than in this official press release. However, you only feel her comprehensive understanding of the art when you listen to her or watch her videos and movies. But perhaps all this is nothing compared to the live experience of one of their shows.
So now we have a precious treasure, twelve CDs in a box, a booklet of 300 (!) pages containing excellent text and images that bring us closer to this artist who, like no one else before her, radically explored the world of sound and went artistically in completely new ways. . Thus opened many other worlds.
