ÖTV-Kids-Kat.-1-Serie: First Promises for the Future – ÖTV

The fight for the Master’s participation began again. Last weekend, the first tournament of the 2023 season of the ÖTV Kids Category 1 series took place at 1. TC Kaiserebersdorf in Schwechat-Rannersdorf. On three U9/U10 events (more to come: Alt Erlaa in Vienna from April 28 to May 1, Stans from July 7 to 10), all children can apply for one of eight starting places per age group at the Masters from April 11 to XI by August 13 in Schladming. The biggest step in this direction was taken by David Richter (WTV) with boys U9, Sebastian Schöls (NÖTV) with boys U10, Anastasia Weiler (NÖTV) with girls U9 and Lena Angleitner (OÖTV) with girls U10 – with their championship victories in Schwechat- Rannersdorf.

But it is known that in children’s tennis it is not only the score lists that are important. The ÖTV U10 national coach, Martin Kondert in particular, pays close attention to important issues such as fair play and team spirit – but also, of course, to the potential and development of the children. Kundert’s impression was very positive this time too: “The majority of the team’s players were there. The matches were at a very high level, especially in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.” With the 2013 classic, Kondert found “incredible balance on a high level,” with the 2014 vintage “also one or two promises for the future.”

The “super event” serves its purpose

The first children’s tournament of the year fully achieved its goal again: “I can get an initial overview of the children – and it allows me to look positively into the future,” says Kondert. “I also got feedback from tournament management that the referees weren’t much needed and the kids were already behaving very independently on the pitch. There’s no need for tournament management to call, obituary or look for players at the facility – everything works really well. “Overall, it was a great event,” said Kondert, who also said “a big thank you” to Stefan Weber as tournament director and facility operator.
