Porsche Express – JEFF KOONS X BMW. The artist designs a copy of the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé

Jeff Koons and Oliver Zipse, Chairman of BMW AG, announced today that the artist will be creating a version of the M850i xDrive Gran Coupé.

SALZBURG (OTS) – In 2010, U2 rocker Bono wrote in an article for the New York Times that it should be Jeff Koons who should help shape the design of the cars of the future. BMW and Koons have stayed in the conversation and are now presenting their latest collaboration at the invitation of Angelika Nollert, Director of Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum, at Pinakothek der Moderne. The 8 Series Gran Coupé will celebrate its world premiere in Frieze Los Angeles in February 2022 and will then be available as a limited edition.

8 X JEFF KOONS is the embodiment of precision, sophistication and craftsmanship. For example, multi-layer paint was applied in 285 working hours. The expressive and impressive design combines eleven colors from blue to silver and yellow to black. Only two compounds are produced per week.

Jeff Koons, artist: “It is a great honor for me and I am very much looking forward to having another opportunity to work with BMW and design the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé Edition. I’ve been thinking a lot about what this car is about. What does performance mean? How do you convey something that is the full power of a BMW 8 Series and also includes a human element? It’s great to be a member of the BMW family again.”

“I am proud to announce our new partnership with Jeff Koons. And let me say one thing: I am excited about what he has made! The 8 Series Gran Coupé is firmly rooted in our hearts and Jeff’s design is full of joy and passion. Since the beginning of the collaboration, Jeff has confirmed how proud he is to be a part of The BMW family once again. Dozens of our engineers and designers did their best to celebrate our partnership and bring his vision to life. Welcome home, Jeff Koons!” said Oliver Zipps, Chairman of BMW AG.
