Rural Life: About Lech
Lech in Vorarlberg. At an altitude of more than 1,400 meters above sea level, with the Umishorn River in the background. Many people know the small town through skiing. Locals spend a good portion of their winter time taking care of tourists, but they also have plenty of other things to do: whether it's early stable work like the Hubers' family does or something more relaxed like snowshoeing with friends with hiking guide Tony Griesemann. . Although as an outsider you may have to be a little braver when the temperature is 20 degrees below zero. However, this is not a problem for the locals, as such a trip is definitely rewarded at one of the last houses in the Zug Valley, where there is an old wooden house from the 16th century: the Klosterle. Here the young hotel owners Ethel from Singapore and Jakob from South Tyrol are already preparing for the arrival of hungry snowshoe hikers. True peace and quiet in nature can be found right at the back of the valley. Because only deer and deer live there. But in winter, people here have to come to nature's aid. One of them is master hunter Manfred Vonbank. The forest has been a source of wood for the people of Lech for centuries. Sigi Jochum also uses his own wood to make wall panels for his son's house. Anna Stockler and her father Joseph also travel through the forest, as they are the only ones in town riding horse-drawn sleighs, while in Lech, Clemens Walsh also has to add more wood to his old oven to get the right temperature for the bread to reach.
