Ukraine has asked the West to supply it with multiple, advanced, long-range missile launchers to fight against Russia. “If the West really wants Ukraine to win, maybe it’s time to give us the MLRS?”, advisor to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Mikhailo Podolyak, said on Twitter yesterday. MLRS are American-made artillery systems.
“It is difficult to fight when you are attacked from a distance of 70 kilometers and you have nothing to defend yourself with,” Podolcak said. Ukraine could bring Russia back “behind the Iron Curtain”. But for that we need effective weapons. here and now.”
According to a media report, the US government is considering sending multiple long-range missile launchers to Ukraine. CNN reported Thursday, citing several officials, that the MLRS and HIMARS artillery systems can fire projectiles up to 300 kilometers away. A new military aid package could be announced as early as next week.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Aristovich has called for the delivery of Harpoon-type missiles that can be used to attack ships. Aristovich was quoted by the Yunyan news agency as saying that this would allow Ukraine to break through the Russian blockade of seaports.
