SES today announced the successful launch of two additional O3b mPOWER satellites at 4:08 PM local time aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) in Florida, USA. Following the launch of the fifth and sixth O3b mPOWER satellites, the system now has the required six satellites in medium Earth orbit (MEO) to deliver high-performance network services that combine high throughput, low predictable latency, flexibility and unparalleled availability.

Last month, SES announced it would add two additional Boeing-built satellites to the O3b mPOWER constellation, bringing the fleet to a total of 13 satellites. This additional investment should be funded from SES’s existing capital expenditures. The first four O3b mPOWER satellites, launched last year, have reached their final orbital position and are currently undergoing orbital checks, including a series of space and ground sector systems verification tests.

So far in 2023 alone, SES has deployed and tested 160 O3b mPOWER stations in addition to the existing O3b constellation serving customers in the mobility, telecommunications, government and enterprise services sectors.

“Now that the fifth and sixth O3b mPOWER satellites have been launched and will be operational over the next few months, we are preparing to provide our customers with the high-performance connectivity services they need. By increasing network resilience, we are confident in our ability,” said Rui Pinto, CEO of SES. “We focus on providing our customers with the reliable and secure connectivity they need to run their businesses.”
