The American lifeline of crisis club FC Wacker

There wasn’t much going on FC Wacker Innsbruck in the past months. After bankruptcy and forced relegation from the second league to the Tyrolean League (fifth level), the traditional club is suffering both sportingly (currently only ninth place) and financially. As always at Wacker, money is tight and the future uncertain.

The illustrious guests who turned up in Innsbruck on Friday should make sure the Crisis Club gets some stability and perspective again. Representatives of Los Angeles FC, the current champions in Major League Soccer, have agreed to a strategic partnership with FC Wacker.

One-two between Tyrol and California has been played in the background since winter. “We are very excited to partner with Wacker Innsbruck. Especially because of the fascinating history and special fans, explains Benny Tran, executive vice president of Los Angeles FC in Innsbruck.

Wacker chairman Hannes Rauch is relieved about the deal bringing fresh money into the club’s coffers. “This enables us to develop the club economically and sportingly in the long term and look back step by step towards professional football.”

One problem remains: Wacker members must still agree to partner at the April 26 General Assembly.
