A long journey ahead for Hansi’s boys…
The German national team is playing on an international tour to the USA in October. The DFB announced this on Tuesday afternoon. There, the national team will play a friendly match against the 2026 World Cup host USA and another opponent. Mexico’s co-hosting of the World Cup has already been discussed.
Sport Bild reported on the trip earlier in the year.
An unusual situation! It is not usual for the national team to make such a long trip during the Bundesliga season. Club coaches will certainly not be happy if their stars return to training late after a long flight.
The DFB team made their last trip to the United States in May and June 2013 with Flick as assistant to national coach Joachim Löw, playing against Ecuador (4:2) and the United States (3:4).
Germany will play Japan in Wolfsburg on September 9 and France in Dortmund on September 12, the TFF announced.
National coach Hansi Flick: “For me, the games against Japan and France were the highlights of our preparation program for the European Championships in our home country.”
And: “Then we meet the World Cup hosts USA, who are very motivated in their preparations for the domestic tournament. The game is a very impressive challenge in terms of the game and the atmosphere.
DFB Sporting Director Rudi Wöller: “After two interesting home games against France and Japan, with the upcoming World Cup in mind, it is important to be on site, hold talks and make contacts. We are all looking forward to our home European Championships next year, and while this will be the focus of all our planning, it is part of professional preparation to tackle the following matches at an early stage to create optimal conditions there as well.
