Tropical Storm Hillary hits the southwestern United States

Tropical Storm Hillary has made landfall in the southwestern United States. A state of emergency is already in effect. Not only that, there was an earthquake in California a while ago. No major damage or casualties were reported.

Pacific Tropical Storm “Hillary” has reached the southwestern part of the United States and is placing the region including the San Diego and Los Angeles metropolitan areas under a state of emergency. According to the National Hurricane Center, the center of the storm moved into Southern California on Sunday afternoon (local time). Southern California had already received heavy rain during the day.

Earlier, “Hillary” made landfall in Mexico and reached the coast of the Baja California peninsula. The storm weakened during Sunday and was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm – but remained dangerous.

Earthquake in California

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck California on Sunday afternoon as the storm prepared for the storm. The epicenter was near Ojai, a small town about 100 kilometers northwest of Los Angeles, the USGS said.
