World premiere of BMW: the color of the car changes according to the mood

BMW is making a world premiere at CES in Las Vegas: the e-ink body surface of the BMW iX Flow, the color of which can be changed at the request of the driver.

In the future, digital experiences will not only happen on displays. The real and the virtual will increasingly merge with each other. With the BMW iX Flow, we bring the body back to life.

Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG Development

Salzburg Airport (OTS) BMW shows its colors: “In the future, digital experiences will not only happen on screens. Real and virtual will increasingly merge with each other. With the BMW iX Flow we are bringing the body back to life.” – This was stated by Frank Webber, Member of the Board of Directors of BMW AG Development.
This play of color is made possible by a specially developed body film, whose technology uses electrical pulses to bring different color pigments to the surface. Is it just a gimmick? never. A changing exterior color can increase the vehicle’s efficiency and contribute to a sense of luxury inside. Alternating between dark and light colors, the heat energy absorption can be used efficiently. The white surface reflects significantly more sunlight, which means that vehicle heating can be reduced at higher temperatures. In cooler weather, the darker color of the car absorbs more heat than sunlight. With fully electric cars, natural heating can save energy and thus increase range.
