After defeating Georgia, Slovenia’s basketball players around superstar Luka Doncic can prepare for a World Cup showdown with Germany. America also had a second victory.
Slovenia can only theoretically be knocked out of the top two in Group F. The Slovenians will advance to the intermediate round with a win in the third preliminary round against debutant Cape Verde on Wednesday. If so, Sunday’s battle between Danzi and Germany’s Dennis Schröder will escalate. Slovenia can still be eliminated with only a very high defeat against Cape Verde.
Doncic with 34 points
Doncic, point guard Dallas Mavericks, scored a game-high 34 points as in the first group game. Scored 37 in the opening game against Venezuela.
The Germans have already been decided as winners of Group E, but will be looking for a third win in the opening round against Finland on Tuesday (28.08.2023, 9.30 am) to get off to a good start. In 2022, Germany met the Slovenians twice in the team with Danzig: a German defeat in the opening round at the home European Championship in Cologne, and a victory in the World Cup qualifier in Munich a few days earlier.
USA with second win
Top-seeded USA celebrated their second win in Group C in the second game. After 99:72 against New Zealand, star coach Steve Kerr’s team had no problem without big superstars with two-time European champions Greece at 109:81 (50:37) in Manila. Austin Reaves was the leading scorer for the dominant Americans with 15 points.
