Anyone looking for esports tournaments or ranking modes in Battlefield 2042 will be disappointed at first. The title focuses only on casual multiplayer when it releases and hasn’t yet planned anything for competitive players. The reason may be a new part of Battlefield.

Battlefield 2042 will not have ranked modes, but they can be added at a later time. The developers will work on competitive elements if the player base so desires.
This was announced by Justin Webby, head of studio Ripple Effect (formerly DICE LA), in an interview with the French community “Battlefield Nation”:

In a summary for investors, EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the existence of the danger zone. It has been stated there that this part is a service. Games as a service are becoming increasingly popular nowadays. In addition to regular updates, these titles are mostly free 2-Play in this form.
The danger zone will also have this free play element and you will receive many updates. It remains to be seen if this part will be a separate game entirely or part of Battlefield 2042.
