Due to a technical flaw, the iconic Tower Bridge in central London could not be closed on Monday afternoon.

The City of London Police said on Twitter: “Tower Bridge is currently closed to traffic and pedestrians due to a technical error.” The two wings of the bridge can be seen folded on recordings on British broadcaster ITV.
For some initially unexplained reason, these reports cannot be lowered as usual. Thus the flow of traffic across the Thames ceased, and vehicles quickly packed on both sides of the bank. Tower Bridge is usually open about 800 times a year – twice a day – for ships. They must apply for opening at least 24 hours in advance in writing.
