The German Football Association faces competition from a joint bid by Belgium and the Netherlands to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

LOS ANGELES (SID) – The German Football Association (DFB) faces further competition in a joint bid by Belgium and the Netherlands to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup. A month before the deadline, the United States and Mexico announced their interest in co-hosting. So far, Brazil and South Africa have positioned themselves as further contenders for the DFB and its compatriots.

“The U.S. has always been a world leader in women’s soccer, and we are honored to partner with Mexico to host the world’s premier women’s soccer event,” said U.S. Soccer President Cindy Barlow Cohn. Mexican confederation president Yon de Luisa believes the move is a catalyst for women’s soccer in Mexico and spoke of a “historic” opportunity.

While it will be Mexico’s first time hosting the Women’s World Cup, the United States were the only hosts in 1999 and 2003. The intention to host the competition must be submitted by May 19, and the final application documents must be submitted by December 8, 2023. The matches will be awarded at the FIFA Congress on 17 May 2024. In 2026, Mexico and the United States, along with Canada, will host the first 48-team men’s World Cup.
