voestalpine Railway Systems received its largest single order to date from Great Britain at approximately €237 million. The company will design, deliver and service points, engines and rail stretches including diagnostic systems for the new High Speed 2 network. Along with other major international projects, the railway division has received orders totaling around 600 million euros, according to the company in a press release on Thursday.
High Speed 2 will be a high-speed north-south connection approximately 275 kilometers long with a carrying capacity of around 300,000 passengers per day. “This record order confirms once again our strategy and our global experience in the sector. The railway infrastructure sector has been developing very satisfactorily for years,” said voestalpine CEO Herbert Ebensteiner.
In addition to the British, the railway infrastructure from Austria is also used by the Australians, Egyptians and Bosnians. With an order of €220 million for welded points and rails for Sydney trains, the previous collaboration in the Greater Sydney area will be extended for another five years. Voest also supplies around 260 high-speed switches including a switch maintenance program for the first Egyptian high-speed line (“Green Line”) – order volume 42.5 million euros. Linz’s high-performance participatory is also used in the modernization of the Adriatic-Black Sea route.
