St. Polten – Evangelical Church: Vocafonia combines music and knowledge

Under the motto “Music, Word, and Art,” St. Bultner Vocafonia brought the work of composer Heinrich Schütz to the Protestant church. Born near Dresden in 1585, Schütz is still considered one of the most important composers of the early Baroque era. His works primarily consist of sacred vocal music. These exact pieces have now been performed by Vocafonia in St. Polten. The evening was not just a pure concert, but should also impart some knowledge. Before the concert started, there was a lecture by Artistic Director Markus Hofnagel, in which the background of the composer and the musical pieces were explained. “An introductory lecture is given thirty minutes before all concert events. As part of this, the content and the cultural-historical context of the respective program are explained,” Hufnagl reports.
