Recently, there have been sold-out concerts again, Ulrichskirchner says, and shows had to be canceled because almost no tickets were sold. The main reason for this is increasing competition: the “artistic middle class” in particular is competing against the cosmopolitan class.

“It seems like almost all of the world’s superstars are on tour at the same time,” says Tembe. Especially in summer, there is also a huge free cultural show, such as the Vienna Cultural Summer.

In general, cabaret seems to be more lucrative for the organizers than music events. Interest in art and culture remains high, however, and demand is increasingly focused on well-known names.

Perhaps the Globe and Sale Stadium should be closed so the big stars can breathe, says Oliver Tempe – with a wink, of course.
